How to Get Involved

Volunteer

Our outstanding community and parents are a phenomenal resource for our school and so important to our success. If you have special skills and knowledge connected to our local culture and environment or want to participate in our project-based activities, we would love to know about your background and invite you to help our students learn and appreciate our unique place to live. If your life has led you to other places in the world, our students would greatly benefit from hearing about your experiences.

We are a place-based school so we deeply appreciate you sharing your knowledge and experience of our three focus areas: Tribal culture, agriculture (includes food gardening), and natural resources (includes natural environment and sustainability). Your help and enthusiasm, even if it’s just a few hours, goes a long way to making sure our school is a wonderful place for our students and families.

Working directly with the students, you can:

  • give a presentation about your knowledge and experiences;
  • help with our project-based activities – anything from canoe making to snow-shoeing to tie-dying;
  • assist students on academic subjects;
  • share special interests and talents, such as music, art, science and much more;
  • help the students create and grow their garden;
  • prepare materials for students to take home;
  • lead the students in activities for Wonderful Wednesdays.

Our programs include:

  • SCS School Board
  • Community Meeting or Career Visitors
  • Wonderful Wednesdays
  • Fundraising events
  • Winter and Spring Programs
  • GROW Garden Program
  • Recycling
  • Playground assistance

Donations very welcome!

Donors have been generous in providing funding for much needed programming such as the Lunch Program, the Library, and the Reading Program. We rely on the generosity and contributions of many people to make our school what it is, a school of choice with smaller classroom sizes and personal attention for our students focusing on place-based and project-based education.

If you wish to make monetary or material donations please contact the school at 541-783-2533 or E-mail us .
