Kindergarten was full of fun in October. We started our reading centers. We finished up with patterns and we are now working on recognizing and writing our numbers. We decorated the classroom with spiders, ghosts and webs. We ended October with a great Halloween party. Thank you to all parents who came and especially to Miss Kay. I think that November will be just as exciting!!

Our class finished reading Tuck Everlasting and enjoyed comparing it to the Disney Movie. We are currently enjoying the story of Bunnicula. We have been writing persuasive essays, trying to convince people to visit Crater Lake or Monteverde, using fascinating information we have learned. We have also begun a geography study of the United States, its mountains and the world beyond. In math, we are learning to count in base 4 and 5, which will help us better understand base 10. Our classroom wall displays 10,000 squares in the “Great Wall of Base Ten”. Come check it out.

We welcomed Amelia to our class this month.
We made fact books about volcano types in Oregon. The First Graders are working hard on addition. The Second Graders are finishing up on patterns and about to start a new math unit about ants. We had a great time on Halloween. Thank you to all the parents who sent goodies and helped out.

The field trip to Crater Lake emphasized our studies on volcanoes. Each student wrote a
5-paragraph essay on 6 of the 26 major types of volcanoes. (Mt Mazama was of the most explosive type!)
Thermometers and rain gauges will go home with each student to track daily weather patterns. We plan to collect data and map it with the help of Chris Wayne, GIS Specialist from Crater Lake NP.
